Restore Your Car’s Shine and Safety: The Ultimate Guide to Headlight Restoration
During our everyday use of our vehicles and constant effects from the hot suns UV rays our headlights can become dull, yellowed, or foggy over time not only making your car look worn and taking away its allure, but seriously reducing your safety while driving as it can become harder to see at night and making it hard for other drivers to see your indicators.
What is headlight restoration?
Headlight restoration is a multi stage process involving sanding and polishing headlight lenses to remove oxidation, scratches, yellowing and other damage to improve visibility while driving bringing back that new look.
What a headlight restoration does
Restores the original clarity of the headlight lenses, improves visibility on the road improving safety and adds a new layer of protection to the lenses.
Follow these steps to restore your Headlights
Inspect Your Headlights: Begin by examining your headlights in broad daylight to assess the extent of cloudiness or damage.
Clean Them Up: a mix of car soap and water to cleanse the headlights, wiping away any surface dirt or debris.
Protect Surrounding Areas: Apply masking tape around the headlights to safeguard your car’s paint during the cleaning process.
Sanding: Use sandpaper, starting with a coarse grit and gradually moving to a finer grit, to evenly sand the headlight surface, aiming to eliminate any roughness.
Polish to Perfection: Using a polishing compound, buff the headlights to a gleam, restoring their clarity.
Seal and protect: Finish by applying a UV protective sealant to shield the headlights against future wear and environmental damage.
Please note: Some headlights may not need sanding and you can restore your headlight clarity by simply using a cutting compound from your local automotive store.
While there are many DIY headlight restoration kits out there, as the process involves abrasives it is quite easy to not only make your headlights worse but damage your paint, so we do recommend leaving it to the experts. If you’re unsure feel free to contact the Mr. Sparkle team.
